Winemaking
Fruit was gently picked and sent straight to press. It underwent a cool, slow fermentation in stainless steel with no malolactic fermentation or oak aging, allowing for fresh fruit and floral characters, as well as crisp acidity to be highlighted in the wine.Vintage
The first half of the 2022 harvest started calm and early, with healthy vineyards offering fruit with bright acidity, fruit-forward flavors, and strong yields for white varietals. Then, California experienced a historic heat wave in early September that ramped up the pace of ripening, compelling a fast and furious harvest as winemakers worked to pick fruit at its peak quality. Fortunately, strong vines and proactive irrigation helped many of our vineyards survive the heat. The second half of the growing season was much more predictable with cooler temperatures through October so that later-ripening varieties could develop their full flavor and tannin profile.Vineyard
Fruit for this delicately styled Pinot Gris comes from a well-established Carneros ranch in the cool southernmost growing region in Napa Valley. Shallow clay loam soils join with marine-influences from San Pablo and San Francisco Bays to keep temperatures moderate, allowing fruit to evolve with balanced acidity and flavors.
